Overview

To test my interface design skills created a new mockup interface. The game used as a basis is a very simple shooting gallery game with enemies and projectiles flying towards you. You must defend yourself by tapping these objects on the screen to destroy them.

To illustrate my thought and design process, I show several iterations of the refining process. My goal was to improve current features and find ways to implement new features that wouldn't detract from the game.

Reflection

Feedback played a vital role to my design revisions. I wasn't sure how accurate my feedback would be since I'm relying on playtesters to visualize using the interface. But it's the discrepancy between people's mental model (how they think something should work) and the actual interface that can cause initial confusion. Knowing their mental model is one of the keys to designing an intuitive interface.
